Onshore IT Services Offer Better Solution, as a Third of IT Managers Dissatisfied with IT Offshoring Outside Europe
A recent survey carried out by the Economist Intelligence Unit across 20 European countries found that over a third of Senior IT executives had poor experiences when offshoring outside Europe.
Interestingly, almost 90% of the IT Executives interviewed preferred to do business with local suppliers for a certain amount of products and services. And more encouragingly over 50% plan to boost IT services spending with local suppliers this year.
The reason many companies had previously moved IT services offshore was due to the lack of price competitiveness of local companies. Yet, the survey found that both Central and Eastern Europe now provides attractive ‘nearshore’ locations where vendors can deliver more cost effectively to clients in the West. However, price isn’t everything and IT Managers rate European suppliers more highly for their technical expertise and ability to better fulfil local needs. Innovation is a key factor in using local IT services companies who can provide improvements whilst understanding and dealing with local and cultural needs.

Companies represented also spanned a number of sectors including financial services, technology, manufacturing, the public sector, and the majority represented large enterprises with an annual turnover ranging from 500 to 1 billion euros.
